Tender’s mouse is hand cut and completely hand sewn in England, from naturally black lambskin, tanned in England especially for Tender from Welsh Black lambs reared in England.
The mouse is traditionally weighted with steel shot, and he is stuffed with natural wood ‘wool’. His ears are made from sueded black lambskin, the eyes are glass, and his tail is leather thonging normally used for Tender’s bootlaces. A red blanket label is sewn onto his tummy.
Toy animal-making started as an offshoot of the upholstery trade, and this mouse is made in the old-fashioned way, by drawing seams together over a tight stuffing. While later stuffed animals were cut from mohair plush (and more recently synthetics), early toys were made from sheepskin or rabbit fur. This mouse continues that tradition. He has been hand made and does not meet child’s toy safety standards- it is intended for grown-ups only.
